Police have made additional arrests in connection to the violent robbery at Pooja Jewellers on Kolmar Road in Auckland, which occurred on 23 June. The latest apprehensions include a 16-year-old male, bringing the total number of arrests to five.
Details of the Arrests
Detective Inspector Karen Bright confirmed that four search warrants were executed across Mt Roskill, Mt Albert, and Papatoetoe. “The investigation team located two persons of interest to the inquiry at separate addresses and they were taken into custody,” Bright stated. The 16-year-old male, found in Mt Roskill, faces charges of aggravated robbery and will appear in the Manukau Youth Court.
Additionally, a 36-year-old woman was arrested at a Mt Albert address and charged with being an accessory after the fact to aggravated robbery and receiving property. A 33-year-old man, also located in Mt Albert, was taken into custody for breaches of bail. Both are scheduled to appear in the Manukau District Court.
Robbery Details and Initial Arrests
The robbery at Pooja Jewellers involved three youths who have already been arrested and charged. During the incident, one individual was seriously injured after being struck on the head by one of the offenders wielding a hammer. A staff member intervened with a large sword, causing the robbers to flee the scene.
Footage of the robbery, which has been widely circulated, shows the chaotic and violent nature of the event, highlighting the severity and urgency of the police response.
Ongoing Investigation
“Today’s results mean there have now been five arrests made in connection with the unacceptable events that unfolded that Sunday evening,” Detective Inspector Bright commented. “There is a lot of work going into the investigation by police staff involved. Inquiries are still ongoing into the incident, and we cannot rule out further arrests being made, or charges being laid as a result of this work.”
